Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has taken action to safeguard members of the Florida Gaming Control Commission by signing a bill that creates a public-records exemption for their personal information.

Protecting Personal Information

The bill, SB 692, unanimously passed through the Legislature, aims to shield details such as home addresses, phone numbers, and dates of birth of current and former commissioners and their families. This measure is designed to prevent potential harm from individuals displeased with the commission’s regulatory decisions.

According to the bill, “The release of such personal identifying and location information might place the commission’s current or former commissioners and their family members in danger of physical and emotional harm.”

Established in 2021, the Florida Gaming Control Commission oversees and regulates the state’s gambling industry. The commission’s responsibilities include ensuring fair practices and upholding regulatory standards within the gaming sector.

DeSantis’ office confirmed the signing of SB 692, along with 13 other legislative measures, emphasizing the importance of protecting those responsible for overseeing the state’s gambling operations.
