DigiPlus has taken a formal step into South Africa after securing online gaming licences in Western Cape. The approval gives the Philippines-listed group a route into one of the biggest regulated online gaming markets in Africa while wider expansion plans remain in play.

Good to Know

  • DigiPlus received three online gaming licences from the Western Cape Gambling and Racing Board.
  • The company called South Africa largest online gaming market in Africa, with $4.9 billion in 2025 revenue.
  • South Africa will be the second international market for DigiPlus after Brazil.

DigiPlus Opens South Africa Path With Western Cape Approval

DigiPlus Interactive Corp has picked up three licences from the Western Cape Gambling and Racing Board, giving the company a base for online gaming activity in South Africa. In a filing to the Philippine Stock Exchange on Thursday, the group said the approval covers a national manufacturer licence, a bookmaker licence, and a bookmaker premises licence.

The company had already signalled the plan in late September, when it said it had formally filed three online related applications with the WCGRB. Western Cape, where Cape Town is the provincial capital, matters well beyond one province. DigiPlus said the area accounted for about 31% of national online gaming revenue in 2025 and described it as the largest online gaming market in South Africa. It also said the province appeals to international operators because of transparent regulation and digital readiness.

DigiPlus put the wider South Africa market at an estimated $4.9 billion in gaming revenue in 2025. That makes the country a key target as the group looks outside the Philippines. South Africa is set to become the second international market for DigiPlus after Brazil.

That Brazil push has not been smooth. DigiPlus launched there last year, then paused gaming platform operations in mid October, less than a month after launch. In the latest filing, the company said it aims to start full commercial operations in Brazil within the first half of 2026.

Back home, DigiPlus continues to run a broad digital gaming portfolio. The group operates BingoPlus, described as the first government approved online bingo platform in the Philippines, plus ArenaPlus for sports betting and GameZone for casual and arcade gaming. Another unit runs casino slot arcades in the country.

The company is also working on a bigger land based play. DigiPlus is in the process of acquiring HKD1.60 billion, or $204.1 million, in convertible notes issued by International Entertainment Corp. That deal would give DigiPlus control of New Coast Hotel Manila, a property in the Philippine capital now being redeveloped into an integrated resort.

Recent financial results were weaker. DigiPlus said in March that fourth quarter net income fell 36% year on year to PHP2.5 billion, or $41.9 million. Total revenue for the three months to December 31 came to PHP17.3 billion, down 27% from the prior year period.
