Roblox also introduced stronger messaging and age check measures in late 2024 and early 2026, including tighter chat controls for younger users and age checks for chat access. For the gambling side of the debate, the pressure point is easy to see. Critics have long argued that randomized rewards, purchasable virtual items, and layered in-game currencies can look and feel like gambling to minors, especially when younger users do not fully understand how those systems work. Academic and policy criticism around loot box style mechanics has pushed that debate far beyond casinos and sportsbooks, and into mainstream gaming regulation.
