Talon Esports Renames Dota 2 Team After Flipster Deal

Share

Talon Esports is teaming up with cryptocurrency exchange Flipster in a wide-reaching partnership that goes beyond a simple sponsorship. As part of the new agreement, Talon’s Dota 2 team will now compete under the name Flipster Talon.

Good to know

  • Flipster offers crypto trading with zero fees and was launched in 2021.
  • The Dota 2 team will now officially be called Flipster Talon.
  • Talon has worked with several Web3 projects before, including Yieldly and Planet Mojo.

For Flipster, this deal marks its first move into esports. Founded in 2021, the exchange has been gaining traction in the crypto trading space with its no-fee model. Now, by connecting with Talon, Flipster is blending crypto culture with one of Asia’s biggest esports brands.

Talon is not new to Web3. It previously worked with blockchain platform Yieldly, NFT partner Yesports, and Web3 game ecosystem Planet Mojo. Other projects featured on its website include Riftstorm, Mythos, Stream, XP.GG, and Apeiron. But this new Flipster partnership is the largest crypto collaboration the organisation has announced so far.

A name change and more

The most visible change is the rebranding of Talon’s Dota 2 squad. Going forward, they will compete as Flipster Talon in all tournaments. This step is only the beginning, as both companies plan to roll out various joint projects, content pieces, and activations throughout the partnership.

Sean Zhang, CEO of TALON, explained the thinking behind the partnership:

“As innovators in their field, Flipster shares our drive to push boundaries and create richer fan experiences. Together, we’re exploring exciting new ways to bring gaming and crypto culture together.”

Beyond crypto, Talon has a long list of partners that includes Melbet (as sportsbook sponsor for the Dota 2 team), Paris Saint-Germain, Razer, and VISA. The esports organisation has teams in some of Asia’s biggest competitions, including League of Legends (LCP), VALORANT (VCT Pacific), and Arena of Valor. In 2023, its Dota 2 team secured third place at the Riyadh Masters, further cementing its reputation.
