As September winds down, Moca Network is gearing up for a 10-day online hackathon called Proof of Build. The contest runs through the end of the month and concludes with a live Demo Day in Singapore during Token2049, one of the biggest gatherings in Web3.
Good to Know
Unlike many hackathons that encourage quick prototypes, Proof of Build asks participants to ship real tools that solve identity problems. The theme “Identity Unlocked” revolves around using verifiable credentials and Moca Network’s Open Identity Stack on Moca Chain.
The schedule includes onboarding, keynotes, and workshops before teams dive into eight days of hacking. Mentors guide participants, and after a short polishing period, top projects will be presented live in Singapore on September 29. Investors, founders, and the wider Web3 community attending Token2049 will see the results firsthand.
Project lead Kenneth Shek said that the blend of AIR Kit and Moca Chain offers “a framework for apps and users to share verified identity data, making it easier to build trust without giving up privacy or control.”
The hackathon comes at a time when digital identity is under pressure. Single Sign-On systems remain common but leave users dependent on centralized companies that control their data. Moca Network wants to show that onchain identity can become both practical and user-friendly.
By giving developers the tools to integrate verifiable credentials, Moca hopes to move identity from theory into everyday Web3 products. Yat Siu, co-founder and executive chairman of Animoca Brands, noted that Moca Chain helps move past the weaknesses of centralized systems, which can become single points of failure.
Proof of Build isn’t happening in isolation. Earlier this month, Moca Network launched MocaPortfolio, a staking-based system giving MOCA Coin holders and Mocaverse NFT owners access to token allocations worth $20 million. The first allocation involves the Magic Eden (ME) token, with more to follow.
At the same time, Moca Chain, announced by the Moca Foundation in June, is rolling out as a Layer 1 blockchain focused on identity. EVM-compatible and modular, it uses zero-knowledge proofs, decentralized storage, and oracles to make identity private and verifiable. MOCA Coin powers the chain, covering staking, storage, and gas fees.
