NPIXEL of Korea, the company behind the much awaited METAPIXEL Web3 game, has decided to put the project on indefinite hold, which has led to the departure of the whole staff.
Unexpectedly, game development for the METAPIXEL Web3 platform has ceased. The whole crew is no longer actively working on the game, according to a statement made by a number of the project’s members today via X (formerly Twitter).
When METAPIXEL was revealed to be a development of renowned Korean AAA game studio NPIXEL, it attracted a lot of interest and praise at first. The game gained a sizable following in the Web3 gaming community after its first release on the Apotos blockchain. The project team has chosen not to formally state why METAPIXEL has been suspended, nevertheless.
The online sign-in function for METAPIXEL is likely to be discontinued, according to a statement made by NPIXEL in an official Discord release. The ability to register new members has also already been eliminated. Both the game’s official Twitter account and Discord channel will progressively experience a drop in activity before going completely dormant in the upcoming weeks.
The sudden suspension of METAPIXEL fits into a larger pattern of difficulties faced by the Web3 gaming industry. Web3 game funding has been declining all of this year, falling by 22% in May and by 41% in June month over month. It is yet unknown if financial factors significantly influenced the choice to halt METAPIXEL’s development, despite the fact that NPIXEL is currently engaged in another large project, “Chrono Odyssey.”
Within the Web3 gaming community, there has been a great deal of conjecture around the abrupt and indefinite suspension of METAPIXEL. The circumstances surrounding this surprising turn of events are still unclear.
