Immutable to Eliminate Gas Fees for Gamers with zkEVM Launch

Share

Leading Web3 gaming startup Immutable is preparing to launch its ground-breaking zero-knowledge proof-based (ZK-proofs) scaling platform, zkEVM, in early 2024, with the goal of fully removing gas payments for players.

With Immutable’s zkEVM technology, blockchain-based game creators will be able to eliminate transaction costs for end users, ensuring a smooth and easy onboarding process for players. Web3 games that are based on blockchain protocols typically need players to pay gas fees to network validators in order for the transactions to be processed.

Overcoming Gas Fee Challenges for Mainstream Adoption

One possible obstacle to the adoption of blockchain technology by mainstream players is gas costs, which are a typical element of blockchain transactions. Chief Technology Officer of Immutable, Alex Connolly, acknowledged that gas costs are not what popular gamers anticipate, but stressed the importance of Web3 games providing a comfortable and easy-to-use interface.

Connolly emphasized how expensive petrol prices might be, especially when including digital asset ownership into games. A potential answer to this problem is Immutable’s zkEVM, which enables game producers to sponsor gas charge payments and reverse these transactions for Immutable Passport holders.

Immutable intends to temporarily support the gas costs for every game in its ecosystem when the mainnet launches. Expect relief for game companies, which usually pay high gas prices; gas fee sponsorship may eventually become a normal expense on par with server or infrastructure expenses.

The business estimates that for every 100,000 users in gaming settings, petrol expenses will cost between $500 and $1000. Immutable hopes to improve user adoption and game studio income by financing gas fees.

Together with the security and network benefits that come with being a part of the Ethereum ecosystem, Immutable’s zkEVM is expected to give game creators access to reduced development costs. The industry’s enthusiasm for this ground-breaking effort is evident in the over 20 game studios that have committed to supporting the beta launch, including well-known brands like GameStop, TokenTrove, Kongregate, and iLogos.

With the release of zkEVM, Immutable is one step closer to fulfilling its promise to improve ownership rights for Web3 players and provide a preview of a future where blockchain technology will enable gaming with lower obstacles and better user experiences.
