The Pennsylvania gambling industry set a new record by contributing $2.54 billion in tax revenue for the 2023-2024 financial year. This achievement is based on $5.89 billion in total revenue from casino slot machines, table games, iGaming, sports wagering, video gaming terminals (VGTs), and fantasy sports contests, according to the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB).
The previous record, set in 2022-2023, was $5.5 billion in gaming revenue and $2.36 billion in tax revenue.
Tax revenues support various state programs, including school property tax reduction, economic development projects, safety and recreational initiatives, agricultural support through horse racing, and contributions to the Commonwealth’s General Fund.
Slot machine revenue totaled $2.44 billion, a 0.56% decrease from the previous year. Parx Shippensburg had the highest growth at 146.56%, with $34.47 million, while Harrah’s Philadelphia saw a 12.68% decrease to $109.92 million. The top revenue-generating casinos were Parx Casino ($377.03 million), Wind Creek Bethlehem ($284.31 million), and Rivers Casino Pittsburgh ($265.52 million). Slot machine tax revenue reached $1.343 billion.
Table games generated $958.03 million, a 1.64% decrease. The Casino at Nemacolin increased table games revenue by 41.34% to $2.38 million, while Harrah’s Philadelphia saw a 22.89% decrease to $26.71 million. Leading in table games revenue were Wind Creek Bethlehem ($252.20 million), Parx Casino ($199.05 million), and Live! Casino Philadelphia ($107.82 million). Table games tax revenue was $157.58 million.
iGaming revenue hit $1.95 billion, a 27.16% increase. Hollywood Casino at Penn National Race Course led with $751 million, and Harrah’s Philadelphia saw a 103.66% increase to $102.02 million. iGaming tax revenue was $841.66 million.
Sports wagering revenue was $486.57 million, a 1.10% decrease. Valley Forge Casino Resort led with $249.37 million, down 2.38%. Tax revenue from sports wagering was $175.16 million.
The PGCB also announced total gaming income for the month of June in 2024 which was $471.98 million, a gain of 7.2% versus the same month last year. A good start of the 2024-2025 fiscal year.
