Detroit Casinos Post Lower September Revenue

Detroit’s three casinos saw a modest decline in gaming revenue for September, according to new figures from the Michigan Gaming Control Board (MGCB). Alongside the report, the regulator reaffirmed its support for the State’s FY26 budget, highlighting the importance of responsible oversight and community well-being.

Detroit’s total gaming revenue for September reached $98.9 million, marking a 3% year-over-year decline and a 7.1% decrease from August. Most of that came from table games and slots at $98.2 million, while retail sports betting added $747,425.

Among operators, MGM Grand Detroit maintained the top position with $45.9 million, representing 47% of the state total and down 3.8% year-over-year. MotorCity Casino followed with $28.9 million (30% of total), down 7.2%, while Hollywood Casino at Greektown stood out with $23.4 million, a 4.5% increase from the previous year.

Collectively, the three casinos paid $80 million in state gaming taxes, about $200,000 less than last year, and contributed $16.1 million in wagering taxes to the City of Detroit.

In the retail sports betting segment, MotorCity Casino led again with $589,142, followed by MGM Grand Detroit with $394,500. Hollywood Casino at Greektown, however, reported a loss of $236,217. Detroit’s sports betting handle totaled $13.5 million, with revenue of $775,903, down 1.1% from last year and nearly 40% month-over-month.

MGCB Executive Director Henry Williams praised Michigan’s FY26 budget, which emphasizes public safety and the well-being of residents:
