The Cordish Companies formally started building Live! Casino & Hotel Louisiana, a massive $270+ million project that is expected to completely transform the Shreveport-Bossier region, in a groundbreaking ceremony that was attended by important leaders. As the first of its type in the area, the business hopes to compete with top tourist attractions around the country and become a full-service resort for gaming, events, and entertainment.
The Louisiana Gaming Control Board unanimously approved Live! Casino & Hotel Louisiana’s license in October. The casino is located in Bossier City, on the site of the old Diamond Jacks Casino & Hotel. The approval made it possible for Cordish to buy Diamond Jacks and start the massive project of converting the land into a casino resort with the Live! name.
As a regional center, Live! Casino & Hotel Louisiana is well situated along the Red River, near to Shreveport, and easily accessible via U.S. Highway 71 and Interstate 20. It is about 20 miles from the Texas border and 40 miles from the Arkansas border.
The casino, which is expected to open in 2025, will include more than 47,000 square feet of gaming area with more than 1,000 slots and electronic table games in addition to more than 40 live action table games. In addition to casinos, the complex will have a sportsbook, a five-star hotel with 550 rooms, a fitness facility, a resort pool, and a 25,000 square foot multipurpose event space. In addition, 30,000 square feet of eating and entertainment spaces, featuring cutting-edge food and beverage outlets, are available to guests.
The Live! Casino & Hotel Louisiana project is anticipated to generate substantial economic benefits for the region. It is projected to contribute $35 million in gaming tax revenues to the City of Bossier and over $168 million to the State of Louisiana within the first five years of operation. Annually, the development is expected to create $34 million in salaries, wages, and tips, along with providing employment opportunities for approximately 750 construction jobs and an additional 750 permanent positions in gaming and hospitality.
