ACMA Orders ISPs to Block More Illegal Gambling Sites

Share

Australia’s communications watchdog has once again moved to curb unlawful gambling online, calling on internet providers to restrict access to several offshore websites. The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) confirmed that its latest investigations showed a number of services breaching the Interactive Gambling Act 2001.

Among the newest domains to be added to the blocklist are Slot Lounge, Betzillo, FastSpin99, Spinit, and PokiesPros.

Website blocking has become one of the key tools used by ACMA to shield local players from unlicensed gambling. The measure first began in late 2019, and since then more than 1,300 illegal gambling and affiliate sites have been shut off from Australian users. Enforcement efforts have also prompted around 220 operators to voluntarily exit the market since tighter rules came into effect in 2017.
