Pixelmon Announces MON Token Airdrop Details

Share

Pixelmon, the Pokémon-esque crypto and NFT game, has revealed the details for its upcoming MON token airdrop. Over 180,000 wallets will be eligible for the airdrop, scheduled to begin on Monday, May 27, at 9:30 a.m. UTC. The MON token, minted as an ERC-20 token on Ethereum, will be distributed through the newly established Mon Protocol.

Who’s Eligible for the Airdrop?

Eligible participants include holders of specific Pixelmon game NFTs, players of the hyper-casual game Kevin the Adventurer, participants in the PixelPals “Farm2Farm” competition, and presale buyers of the MON token.

Initially, Pixelmon faced criticism for its Minecraft-like artwork upon launch. However, after two years, a change in ownership, and a significant art redesign, the brand has seen a revival. Pixelmon now releases quarterly mini-games, with larger projects planned for the future.

Kevin the Adventurer, featuring a heavily memed ogre-like creature, quickly attracted 36,000 active players on Base. Following this, PixelPals was launched on the Mantle network, combining pet care and trading card elements. These engaged player bases will be rewarded in the upcoming airdrop.

Players who completed Mon Protocol airdrop missions will receive their tokens shortly after the token generation event, as initially planned.

Alongside the MON token launch, a staking platform will be introduced. Stakers can earn points to spend in a launch pool, with further details to be announced soon. Typically, staking programs allow holders to earn rewards for locking up their tokens within the game or platform.

In 2022, LiquidX acquired the Pixelmon IP from its original creators, aiming to expand the brand into trading cards, merchandise, and various media adaptations. The Mon Protocol will support this growth, fueling the “IP protocol” designed to incentivize and reward NFT holders who contribute to the brand’s expansion into larger games.
