The UK-based company MetaGravity has formally introduced Quark, its multiplayer gaming engine technology, following an 18-month closed beta period. Thanks to its substantial cost reductions and enhanced scalability, Quark promises to completely transform the way game developers create and oversee massive multiplayer games. When compared to current options, the engine offers a ten-fold cost savings, claims MetaGravity.
Despite being primarily made for gaming, Quark has potential uses in a number of different industries. The engine supports a wide range of applications, from developing expansive metaverse experiences to improving enterprise digital twins and defense simulations.
MetaGravity co-founder Rashid Mansoor emphasized the importance of innovation in multiplayer technology. “The future of digital experiences demands infrastructure that is not only scalable but radically efficient. With Quark Multiplayer, we’re delivering the best multiplayer backend today while laying the foundation for a distributed supercomputing future,” Mansoor said.
Quark is currently available in early access, with a broader public release expected in the third quarter of 2025. Developers can expect seamless integration and robust support for large-scale game environments.
MetaGravity has actively expanded its presence in the gaming sector through key partnerships. In early 2025, the company collaborated with Immutable, a leading blockchain gaming platform. This partnership will bring MetaGravity’s web3 titles Edge of Chaos: Dungeons and Edge of Chaos: Apocalypse to a wider blockchain gaming audience.
Additionally, MetaGravity teamed up with web3 cloud compute provider Aethir in 2024. This collaboration is expected to enhance the infrastructure supporting large-scale multiplayer experiences.
As the gaming industry continues its shift toward scalable, immersive experiences, Quark stands out as a solution that reduces operational costs while maintaining robust performance. With its upcoming public release, developers and enterprises alike will soon have access to one of the most efficient multiplayer engines on the market.
