Share

Hangzhou, China, is the host for the exciting PUBG Mobile esports event, a part of Asian Games 2023. A total of 21 squads are battling it out for the ultimate gold medal, with the event having kicked off on Wednesday with qualifications.

PUBG Mobile has earned its spot as one of seven esports games being showcased between September 23 and October 8 in Hangzhou. Designed by LightSpeed & Quantum Studio under Tencent Games, this free-to-play battle royale sensation is an evolution of PUBG: Battlegrounds.

What’s special about this version? Asia’s best esports professionals will be vying for the top three medals at Hangzhou 2023. Each game will host 16 players, creating four-player teams. Throughout multiple rounds, participants will target shoot and race vehicles. Finishing positions are determined by which team crosses the line first. Each game is timed at 30 minutes.

Introducing the teams

21 teams will lock horns. Mongolia, Maldives, and Japan are in the qualification round. Chinese Taipei, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Jordan, and others, totaling 14, are in the preliminary stage. China, Thailand, Palestine, and Kazakhstan have a free pass to the knockouts as regional champions.

How will the event pan out? There are multiple stages. In the qualification round, the best two teams from Mongolia, Maldives, and Japan will proceed. 16 teams divide into four groups in Preliminary Round 1. Group placements include combinations like Uzbekistan, Jordan, Hong Kong, and Laos in Group A. The best seven teams proceed to the Knockout Round.
