Jim Ryan, the leading figure of PlayStation, announced his forthcoming departure from Sony. Sony Interactive Entertainment disclosed the news through an official statement. Since 2018, Ryan held the positions of CEO and president. Spanning almost three decades, his journey at Sony saw him in various pivotal roles. Notably, he led Sony Europe, succeeding Andrew House in 2011 when he retired as the SIEE president.

Addressing the reasons for his decision to leave, Ryan stated, “I’ve found it increasingly difficult to reconcile living in Europe and working in North America. PlayStation has enriched my life, touching millions globally. While it remains a cherished part of my journey, I look forward to what’s next for SIE. My heartfelt gratitude goes to Yoshida-san for his unwavering trust and mentorship.”

While Ryan stays on until March 2024, the leadership will see a transition. Hiroki Totoki, Sony Group Corporation’s President, COO, and CFO, will assume the role of SIE’s interim CEO from April 1, 2024, directly answering to Sony’s CEO, Kenichiro Yoshida. In preparation for this transition, Totoki has been designated as chairman of Sony Interactive Entertainment starting October 2023.
