Nikita Bier has left the daily product leadership role at X after just over one year, ending a tenure that brought dozens of launches and major changes across the platform.
Good to Know
Bier said running the platform had become a round-the-clock responsibility and that he needed a break.
“Ladies and gentlemen, it’s time to pass the torch and demote myself to my natural state: a poster,” Bier wrote. “I’ll be stepping back from leading product for 𝕏 and will continue on as an advisor.”
Benji Taylor will lead design, while Jonah Katz and Mridul Singhai will oversee product work, according to Bier. X rebuilt much of its timeline, Android app, messaging system and notifications during his tenure. The company also launched X Money after several delays.
Bier joined X in July 2025 after founding the social apps tbh and Gas, later acquired by Meta and Discord. He also worked as a Lightspeed venture partner before taking the X role.
“X is, and will remain, the most important communication technology in history. But running this app is a 24/7 job and it’s now time for me to take a breather,” Bier wrote.
His year at X also covered repeated problems involving Grok, including offensive outputs and misuse of image generation tools. Bier said he oversaw 30 launches while “protecting the integrity of the town square,” but X has not named one direct replacement.
