Animoca Brands continues to fine-tune board structure as the Web3 and gaming group balances growth, governance, and global scale. A leadership update finalized in December reflects that focus, while keeping continuity at board level.
Good to Know
Animoca Brands Corporation Limited confirmed the appointment of John Madden as a non-executive director, effective 10 December 2025. The appointment formalizes a long-running internal role, with Madden already serving as company secretary since 2019.
His promotion comes as Animoca Brands continues to operate across gaming, blockchain, digital property rights, and Web3 infrastructure, areas where governance and regulatory discipline remain critical.
Yat Siu said:
“John has been a trusted member of Animoca Brands since 2019. As company secretary he helped us to navigate complex governance and regulatory issues as we scaled up globally. We are very pleased to welcome him to the board as a non-executive director and look forward to benefiting even more deeply from his experience in governance, capital markets, and corporate development. At the same time, I would like to extend my deepest appreciation and gratitude to departing director David Brickler, whose years of service have helped us to establish Animoca Brands as an industry leader.”
One day after the Madden appointment, non-executive director David Brickler resigned from the board on 11 December 2025 to pursue other business interests.
Animoca Brands acknowledged the role Brickler played during a period of rapid business expansion, including corporate development and structural growth. The board credited Brickler for helping guide the company through key phases of evolution in global markets.
Madden brings decades of governance and financial experience to the board. He spent 24 years at Rio Tinto across accounting, acquisitions, taxation, feasibility planning, construction development, and government relations.
Following his tenure at Rio Tinto, Madden focused on small market capitalization companies, guiding multiple listings across the Australian Securities Exchange, the Alternative Investment Market, and the London Stock Exchange. That background aligns closely with Animoca Brands capital structure, international exposure, and partnership-driven model.
He holds a commerce degree from the University of Melbourne and remains a fellow of CPA Australia and the Governance Institute of Australia, along with membership in the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
