Anichess has added a new layer to its web3 chess experience with the launch of M8, an on-chain points system designed to reward players for simply showing up and playing. Built on the Base network, M8 gives daily incentives to active users and sets the stage for a wave of upcoming game features.
Good to know
Players earn 10 M8 Points every day by participating in at least one Quick or Ranked Match. Winning isn’t required—the act of playing is enough to qualify. Claims open every weekday at 07:00 UTC and cover games played the day before. Monday’s claim covers matches played on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
To collect your points, click the M8 Claim button inside the Anichess interface. However, points will expire if not claimed before the next cycle begins at 00:00 UTC, so daily visits are essential.
Future in-game uses for M8 Points include access to spells, lootboxes, and cosmetic items like custom boards, backgrounds, and chess pieces. There will also be a new high-stakes mode called Gambit, where players can pay M8 Points to join token-based duels. Some lootboxes will include elemental drops like Fire, Water, and Earth—and potentially the upcoming $C token, tied to the Genius Score airdrop by Checkmate Foundation.
If you played during Anichess Season 3, your previously earned on-chain points have already been converted into M8 Points. No extra action is needed.
Anichess, developed by Animoca Brands in partnership with Chess.com, offers a web-based game that blends classic chess with magical mechanics. Players can log in via Google, Discord, Facebook, X, or web3 wallets such as MetaMask, WalletConnect, or Coinbase. Using a social login will automatically generate a crypto wallet using Web3Auth.
The entire experience runs directly in the browser, no downloads required. With the addition of M8 and future token-based features, Anichess continues to merge familiar strategy gameplay with blockchain mechanics.
