Trump Says “Get it to My Desk ASAP” as Stablecoin Bill Moves Forward

Share

US President Donald Trump has publicly urged the House of Representatives to quickly pass the GENIUS Act, a stablecoin bill aimed at establishing clear regulations for dollar-pegged digital assets. Trump made his appeal just days after the Senate approved the legislation in a 68-30 vote.

Good to know

  • The GENIUS Act sets strict rules for stablecoin issuers, including full reserve backing.
  • Trump called on the House to pass the bill “lightning fast”.
  • The House vote is next, with Republicans holding a slim majority.

The GENIUS Act, short for Guiding and Establishing National Innovation for US Stablecoins, proposes a legal framework for payment stablecoins. The bill requires issuers to hold 1:1 reserves in safe assets and obtain proper licensing at either the federal or state level. It also includes provisions for Anti-Money Laundering compliance and consumer protections.

Following the Senate’s approval, Trump posted on Truth Social: “The Senate just passed an incredible Bill that is going to make America the UNDISPUTED Leader in Digital Assets.” He continued, urging the House to move quickly: “Get it to my desk, ASAP — NO DELAYS, NO ADD ONS.”

Under the bill, stablecoin issuers would be restricted from using reserves for anything beyond redemptions or approved low-risk investments, such as Treasury repos. This limitation is designed to prevent issues linked to shadow banking practices.

The House is expected to vote soon, and with a Republican majority, passage is likely—though not guaranteed. If passed without changes, the bill will head directly to the president for final approval.

Trump’s call for urgency signals his interest in putting the United States ahead in the digital asset space, particularly by regulating stablecoins in a way that avoids systemic financial risk while fostering innovation.
