Tether Sues Swan Bitcoin Over Alleged Breach in Mining Partnership

Share

Swan Bitcoin is being sued by Tether, a well-known stablecoin issuer, in the High Court of England and Wales. Alleged contract violations involving their joint Bitcoin mining company, 2040 Energy, are the basis for the case.

The dispute centers on 2040 Energy, a 2022-founded Bitcoin mining company. Swan Bitcoin is in charge of the remaining 20% of the initiative, while Tether owns 80% of it. Court documents state that Swan’s profits were reliant on Tether recouping its original investment.

Tether claims it upheld its contractual obligations while accusing Swan of misconduct that jeopardized the partnership. In response, Swan acknowledged the legal action but refrained from detailed comments. Instead, the company stated its intent to “vigorously defend” against the allegations.

Escalating Legal Tensions

This lawsuit adds a new dimension to a dispute that began in September. Swan had previously filed a separate lawsuit against former mining employees and contractors. The company accused them of misappropriating proprietary information to establish Proton Management.

While Tether was not named in Swan’s earlier lawsuit, its current legal action signals intensifying discord between the two companies. Blockspace reported that Tether’s decision to involve the UK courts highlights unresolved tensions surrounding the management of 2040 Energy.

Swan had previously described the employee defections as a “corporate coup,” alleging attempts to seize control of its mining operations. Tether’s lawsuit raises further concerns about Swan’s adherence to their agreements and the overall handling of the venture.

The outcome of this legal battle could have far-reaching implications for both Tether and Swan Bitcoin. Beyond financial stakes, the case underscores the challenges of managing joint ventures in the rapidly evolving cryptocurrency space.
