Ripple says the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency has granted final approval for Ripple National Trust Bank, adding federal oversight to its stablecoin infrastructure.
Good to Know
Ripple National Trust Bank will manage segregated RLUSD reserves, act as collateral trustee for holders and provide fiduciary digital asset custody. Its charter covers trust services rather than a conventional retail banking business. The OCC granted conditional approval in December 2025.
Meanwhile, Standard Custody & Trust Company will continue issuing RLUSD. Bank of New York Mellon remains the primary reserve custodian, with monthly independent attestations covering reserves and circulating supply.
Ripple says RLUSD has reached a $2.5 billion market cap since launching in December 2024. Cash and cash equivalents, including U.S. government securities, fully back the stablecoin, according to the company.
CEO Brad Garlinghouse linked the approval to broader institutional services:
“For years, we’ve said crypto and banks work better together. Final approval for Ripple National Trust Bank is what that looks like in practice. We’ve spent over a decade building regulated financial infrastructure that institutions can actually use at scale. A national trust charter gives us an even stronger foundation for RLUSD and the institutional products we’re building across payments, custody and capital markets.”
