New Global Agreement with Visa Expands Wirex Payments Services to 40 Countries

Share

According to an announcement made on Monday, cryptocurrency payments app Wirex has inked a long-term worldwide agreement with Visa to grow its impact in Asia-Pacific (APAC) and the United Kingdom.

The news expands on the two businesses’ current connection, which includes a crypto-linked Visa debit card in the United States and Wirex holding primary membership status with Visa in Europe. Wirex claims to have been the first firm in the world to launch a crypto-enabled card in 2015, allowing customers to purchase and trade numerous standard and cryptocurrencies.

The London-based Wirex, which has over 5 million clients, will now be able to immediately issue crypto-enabled debit and prepaid cards in over 40 countries as a result of this expansion.

Matt Wood, Head of Digital Partnerships, Asia Pacific, Visa, said:

“Visa wants to bring more payment options to consumers by connecting digital currencies with our network of banks and merchants.”

Despite the fact that its greatest client base is in the United Kingdom, Wirex has previously withdrew the U.K. The Financial Conduct Authority’s (FCA) provisional registration scheme was used ahead of a deadline to achieve full registration, which meant it would service consumers in the United Kingdom through a subsidiary regulated in Croatia.
