Meta Rolls out NFTs on Instagram and Facebook to All U.S. Users

On Thursday, Meta announced to have finally rolled out Instagram’s non-fungible token (NFT) functionality to all its users in the U.S.. The new Instagram feature has been tested among selected users since May and will now enable millions of Americans to connect their wallets from Dapper Labs, MetaMask, Coinbase, Trust and Rainbow to their Instagram accounts.

Meta’s announcement on its company blog post detailed:

“Today we’re announcing everyone on Facebook and Instagram in the U.S. can now connect their wallets and share their digital collectibles.

“This includes the ability for people to cross-post digital collectibles that they own across both Facebook and Instagram.

“Additionally, everyone in the 100 countries where digital collectibles are available on Instagram can now access the feature.”

The new functionality enables users to do the following, the blog post details:

  • Connecting a digital wallet. Once connected, creators and collectors will have the ability to choose which NFTs from their wallet they would like to share on Instagram.
  • Sharing digital collectibles. Once a creator or collector posts a digital collectible, it will have a shimmer effect and can display public information, such as a description of the NFT. Posts will also be visible on their profile.
  • Automatic tagging of both the creator and collector. The creator and collector can be automatically attributed in the digital collectible post (subject to their privacy settings).
