Canadian Crypto Exchange Merger Set to Create Largest Trading Platform in the Country

Share

A historic merger in the Canadian cryptocurrency market is about to take place as WonderFi, a Canadian exchange backed by Kevin O’Leary, better known as “Mr. Wonderful” from the popular TV show Shark Tank, gets set to join forces with CoinSmart Financial and Coinsquare, two other significant Canadian exchanges.

Longtime proponent of cryptocurrency O’Leary declares his support for the combination, saying:

“The world has gone through trauma in crypto. And regulators all around the world now are scrutinizing rogue platforms, rogue broker exchanges, rogue dealers. The amount of investigation occurring everywhere else makes it almost uninvestable. Except for Canada.”

O’Leary asserts that the age of “rogue” cryptocurrency exchanges is coming to an end and highlights Canada’s supportive regulatory framework.

Merger Approval and Future Outlook

The WonderFi, CoinSmart, and Coinsquare combination intends to become Canada’s biggest cryptocurrency trading platform. According to a story from The Globe and Mail, the arrangement will be finalized on Monday after receiving the required permission from Canada’s Competition Bureau.

WonderFi has already made public its decision to end support for the CoinSmart platform and execute layoffs in order to optimize operations in light of the merger. Dean Skurka, CEO of WonderFi, thinks that given the state of the market, consolidation is the best strategy. Skurka states:

“From our vantage point, the best way to move forward with current market conditions is to consolidate and cherry-pick the best aspects of the business. Smaller exchanges are destined to either shut down or get swallowed up by companies like ours, and what we really want is for WonderFi to be Canada’s market leader.”

A notable advancement in the nation’s cryptocurrency market can be seen in the combination of these two important Canadian trading platforms. Uncertainty surrounds how this consolidation will reshape the Canadian cryptocurrency sector and might draw in more investors in the upcoming months.
