Martin Alcaide, a dedicated online poker player, made headlines by winning his first World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelet and $501,250 in prize money. Alcaide, originally from Spain but now representing Bulgaria, overcame a massive field of 10,143 entries in the $400 buy-in no-limit hold’em ‘Colossus’ event.

Alcaide attributed his presence at this year’s WSOP to winning a main event seat online through GGPoker. With this seat secured, he traveled to Las Vegas and decided to enter the Colossus event, which led to his impressive success.

Before this achievement, Alcaide had accumulated just under $12,500 in live poker earnings. This victory significantly boosted his earnings and earned him the prestigious WSOP champion title.

The Colossus event attracted 10,143 players, creating a prize pool of $5,940,883. The top 2,296 finishers took home a share of the prize money. Notable players like 2004 WSOP main event winner Greg Raymer, seven-time bracelet winner Men Nguyen, and Matt Glantz had deep runs, finishing 56th, 27th, and 19th, respectively.

The event featured three initial flights, followed by three more days of play with a combined field. On the final day, 92 players remained, with Alcaide already in the top 20. As the field narrowed to a single table, Alcaide took the lead.

Reflecting on his win, Alcaide said, “I feel so relieved mostly. I was mostly just scared of losing, which is not a good mindset, so I was just trying to concentrate on the hands, so I’m relieved more to be rid of the tension than the happiness right now, but I’m sure that will change.”
