X Expands Content Detection Across Creator Program

Share

X is changing how creator revenue is divided after identifying 1.5 million copied posts. Payments linked to duplicate videos and text will now go to the original uploader rather than the account that reposted them.

Good to Know

  • X expects to redirect more than $1 million to original creators.
  • A new Grok model detects copied content three times more often.
  • Three engagement bait violations can lead to removal from the revenue program.

X Links Revenue to Original Uploads

Adding a watermark, introduction or minor edit will no longer help repost accounts collect the full payment. X said its system can identify the earlier upload and transfer monetized impressions to the original creator. The rule covers videos and copied viral text posts.

The latest review identified 1.5 million stolen posts, although X did not disclose the period covered. Nikita Bier said the revised allocation would return more than $1 million in creator revenue to the people who first posted the material.

X has spent several months reducing payments to accounts that repeatedly package work from other users. Earlier changes cut revenue for aggregators, while new video recording and editing tools aim to give creators more ways to publish original material directly on the platform.

Engagement Bait Gets a Three Strike Rule

Revenue penalties also apply to posts designed only to collect replies or followers. Accounts that use requests such as “I’ll follow everyone who replies” at least three times can lose access to creator payments and may be referred for account suspension.

Repeated attempts to evade duplicate detection can bring the same result. X is also using automated systems against bot activity, which often helps copied posts collect artificial engagement.

The changes alter the economics of reposting without banning the practice. Users can still share existing material, but original work and added commentary will carry more value inside the X creator revenue sharing program.
