Wemade is set for new control after founder Park Kwan-ho agreed to sell his full 39.33% stake to NeoPulse, a Korea based subsidiary of Hong Kong investment company Shengsong Investment. The deal is worth about 920 billion won, or $590 million.
Good To Know
Wemade is not just another Korean game company for NeoPulse. The buyer is taking control of a studio tied to The Legend of Mir, one of South Korea most important MMORPG franchises and still a known IP in China.
NeoPulse cited Wemade world class MMORPG development skills and the strength of Mir in China as key reasons for the acquisition. That point explains the premium. Chinese investors are paying far above the market price because Mir still carries licensing, publishing and new game potential in a market where fresh IP has become harder to launch.
Mir has also been a complicated asset. Wemade has kept monetizing the franchise in China, but long running rights and licensing disputes have limited the full value. NeoPulse, with reported links to Alibaba and major Chinese gaming companies, may see room to improve distribution, local partnerships and licensing structures.
Park established Wemade in 2000, and his exit from control ends a long founder led chapter. Once the transaction closes on October 30, NeoPulse will become the largest shareholder with 40.25%.
Park told employees that the games business can no longer stay inside one national market. He said Wemade had reached a point where its future could not be viewed only through Korea, and that entry into a larger market had become necessary for survival.
The deal is being presented as a strategic acquisition rather than a passive investment. NeoPulse plans to help Wemade develop new titles for global markets, especially China, while working with Chinese game companies, developers and publishers on wider business models.
Wemade also tied the sale to artificial intelligence. The company said both sides share a plan to build future games with AI and speed up expansion in China.
The plan includes AI tools for game development, next generation graphics and live game services. Park said AI is changing how games are made and played, while player expectations for quality and completeness keep rising.
Wemade has also pushed its WEMIX blockchain platform through games such as Night Crows, Legend of Ymir and Mir 4. However, the company did not explain how blockchain will fit into the strategy under NeoPulse control.
That silence is worth noting. For now, the acquisition story is built around Mir, China access and AI production, not Web3 gaming.
