UpScrolled, a recently launched social networking platform, reported a sharp rise in global users following market changes tied to TikTok in the United States. The update was shared publicly by the company founder during an international technology conference.
Good to Know
UpScrolled has exceeded 2.5 million users globally, according to founder Issam Hijazi. Hijazi disclosed the figures while speaking at Web Summit Qatar.
Hijazi said the platform launched around six months ago and reached approximately 150,000 users before early January. User growth accelerated sharply after changes related to TikTok ownership in the United States, pushing total users past one million within weeks and beyond 2.5 million shortly after.
“We launched about six months ago, and we grew to about 150,000 up until early January. And as of the last few days, we reached over one million users globally. Now, starting today, we surpassed two-and-a-half million users globally,” Hijazi said.
UpScrolled positions itself as a hybrid social network, combining elements commonly associated with Instagram and X. The company states that content visibility does not depend on shadowbanning or selective suppression and that all viewpoints can be published on the platform.
During his remarks, Hijazi criticized major technology firms and accused large social networks of unethical behavior. He said that user data monetization and platform design often prioritize revenue over user well-being. He also alleged that some platforms selectively suppress pro-Palestinian content.
“They don’t care about selling your data to someone else if that means profit for them. And they don’t care about your mental health, as in they will design something just to keep you addicted to using that platform as long as it’s profitable for them,” he said.
Content moderation remains an open issue for the platform. Users on other social networks have raised concerns about the presence of pornography and nudity on UpScrolled. Hijazi acknowledged those concerns and said the company plans to enforce community rules without relying on amplification algorithms.
According to Hijazi, UpScrolled will implement community guidelines tailored to legal requirements in different regions. The company is assembling a group of subject matter experts to formalize those standards and continues to review user feedback as part of the process.
UpScrolled has not announced any funding rounds publicly. Hijazi said the company has received interest from investors but did not provide further details.
