NFL Rivals is getting a full refresh. Developer Mythical Games has revealed major updates coming in Year 3, aiming to make the Web3 football game more fun, fair, and accessible for all types of players. Whether you are brand new or a long-time user, big changes are on the way starting August 20.
Good to know
Mythical Games is rolling out a wide set of updates for NFL Rivals as part of its Year 3 launch. One of the biggest issues from the previous season was how tough it was for new players to keep up with veterans without spending money. The company is now trying to close that gap.
A brand-new upgrade system will change how players level up. Outdated Base Cards will be removed and converted into Training Points. The old Rank Up Tokens will now be called Training Tokens. Instead of just collecting cards, players will burn lower ones to upgrade others using a new Card XP system. This puts more value on how players manage their collections.
Also, most new cards in Year 3 will be locked. That means they can be played in-game but not traded unless converted using Mint Tokens. The amount of tokens needed depends on the rarity of the card. This setup lowers pack prices and gives newer players better-quality cards earlier in their journey.
Year 3 will also introduce a new game mode called Stadiums. In this real-time PvP mode, players can battle as many times as they want. Entry costs Coins, and wins earn Trophies to unlock unique stadiums, each with their own environments and modifiers.
Leagues are getting a full reset as well. Instead of daily matches, rankings will now depend on Coins earned through Stadiums and Events. League seasons will last 7 days, and Event difficulty will scale based on a player’s division. Squads will also get new rankings that track both participation and performance.
All of this will go live with a massive new card drop—over 800 new cards, one for each NFL team. Legendary cards will be available for every team, and all will be locked by default, setting a new baseline for gameplay and content.
With more than 6 million downloads already, NFL Rivals is positioning Year 3 as a reset point. Mythical Games is betting that these changes will keep longtime users engaged and help new players enjoy the game without falling behind.
Server maintenance for the update begins at 3 AM ET on August 20. Players should prepare for a fresh start with new mechanics, better balance, and a deeper card system.
