Google Play Games Sidekick Adds AI Help to Android Gaming

Google is expanding its Android gaming tools with the rollout of Play Games Sidekick, an AI assistant designed to offer tips and gameplay support inside mobile games.

The feature first appeared in September 2025 and is now becoming available to more Android users.

Play Games Sidekick runs as an overlay on top of games, meaning it appears directly on the screen while you play. From that menu, players can access tools that help with recording, streaming, and gameplay assistance. According to Google, more than 90 Android games already support the system.

During the Game Developers Conference, Google explained that the feature aims to make gaming and content creation easier for players who want to record or share gameplay. Players can capture gameplay clips or start livestreams directly through YouTube Live without leaving the game.

AI Tips Appear Inside the Game Window

Play Games Sidekick uses AI to provide hints during gameplay. Instead of switching to guides or external apps, players receive suggestions directly inside the game window through the overlay interface. The menu works in both portrait and landscape orientations.

In the future, Google plans to connect the system with Gemini Live, its voice assistant technology. Voice commands would allow players to start recordings or request gameplay advice without touching the screen.

Google also confirmed that Sidekick tools will not interfere with achievements or progress in supported games.

Android Game Trials Let Players Test Games First

Alongside Sidekick, Google introduced another feature aimed at Android gamers called Game Trials. Game Trials allow users to download and play selected Android games free for up to 60 minutes. The system keeps your saved progress even if the trial ends. If you decide to buy the full game later, you can continue playing exactly where you stopped.

Google expects Game Trials to roll out across Android devices in the near future.
