A new partnership between Animoca Brands Japan and XANA LLC, the company that developed the Web3 metaverse platform XANA, has been revealed. Supporting the worldwide development of XANA BreakingDown, a Web3 game based on the well-known Japanese martial arts competition BreakingDown, is the main goal of this strategic alliance. The game, which is now in closed alpha, offers a distinctive take on the thrilling world of mixed martial arts in the digital sphere.
BreakingDown is a widely popular martial arts event in Japan, where fighters from diverse disciplines battle it out in intense one-minute rounds. Since its launch in 2021 by Asakura Mirai, a renowned mixed martial artist and YouTube personality, the event has captured the attention of fans worldwide. Mirai’s dynamic approach to the competition, along with the event’s wide range of content—including auditions, press conferences, and match livestreams—has contributed to BreakingDown’s rapid rise in popularity. With over 206,000 subscribers on its official YouTube channel and more than 110 million views, BreakingDown has become a major force in martial arts entertainment.
XANA, which previously served as the main sponsor for several BreakingDown events, is now taking the competition to the next level by creating XANA BreakingDown—a Web3 game that allows fans to engage in the world of martial arts like never before. The game is currently available in a closed alpha phase to holders of the limited-edition XANA x BreakingDown Avatar NFTs, which sold out quickly in its first sale. This partnership marks the first step in integrating BreakingDown’s thrilling competitions into the growing Web3 ecosystem, blending entertainment with blockchain technology.
Yuji Mizoguchi, COO of BreakingDown and CEO of XANA Japan, shared, “XANA BreakingDown fuses the popular entertainment value of BreakingDown with XANA’s Web3 technology. The aim of this project is to elevate the appeal of the unique fighting entertainment of BreakingDown to the Web3 sphere.” Mizoguchi expressed confidence that the collaboration would accelerate the global reach of BreakingDown.
Animoca Brands Japan, known for its expertise in supporting the global expansion of Japanese intellectual property, will leverage its vast network and experience to propel XANA BreakingDown’s global marketing efforts. CEO Kensuke Amo stated, “We are delighted to be able to support the global Web3 expansion of BreakingDown, one of Japan’s largest martial arts events.”
With over 540 companies in its portfolio, Animoca Brands is well-equipped to introduce BreakingDown to Web3 fans around the world, further solidifying Japan’s influence in the gaming and blockchain industries.
