Six works by self-sufficient AI artist Botto will be on display at Sotheby’s, which represents a major turning point in the three-year career of the artist. Botto, a digital art project by German artist Mario Klingemann in collaboration with ElevenYellow, has become well-known for its distinct style. “Exorbitant Stage: Botto, a Decentralized AI Artist” is the title of the auction, which began on October 17 at 2:00 EST and ends on October 24. The public can view the show from October 19 to 23.
Six of Botto’s inventions are on display; it is estimated that these pieces might bring in between $220,000 and $310,100. Pieces such as “The Threshold of Reverie” and “Exorbitant Stage” showcase Botto’s versatility. With starting bids ranging from $9,000 to $70,000, Botto’s growing stature in the art world is evident. Additionally popular is the NFT marketplace OpenSea, where some of Botto’s artwork has sold for as much as 11.99 Ethereum, or $31,449 in value.
Mario Klingemann, reflecting on Botto’s success, expressed both pride and envy, saying, “Botto has achieved something that is probably on the bucket list of many artists—including myself—that I still haven’t ticked off my personal list.”
Botto operates in a decentralized way, generating thousands of images autonomously. These creations are then evaluated by a community of stakeholders, who vote on which works should be minted and sold. Over 15,000 participants have contributed to Botto’s development, shaping its artistic style and thematic direction. Each piece reflects the evolving tastes of Botto’s community, providing a unique blend of AI-driven creativity and human input.
