An important announcement was made by Cardano’s developer Input Output Global (IOG) on Thursday. The schedule of the network’s long awaited “Alonzo” update was revealed. The hard fork update will mark the beginning of a new era with Cardano’s smart contract capabilities going live after the summer.

Color coding

Alonzo’s rollout plan will see several ‘color-coded’ phases kicking off an initial “Blue” phase in June and step-by-step expanding to its full deployment in September. This first phase, Alonzo Blue, will be done with a pioneer task force, initial partners, and a spin-up with core stakepool operators.

Basic network functionalities will be monitored during Alonzo Blue. The first test phase will see with the Hard Fork node to Alonzo and initial distribution of ADA to stakepool operators simple Plutus scripts.

In a next step, IOG will move forward by introducing Alonzo White to a wider selection of partners. Scheduled for July, it will include demo dApps, integration with WBE and PAB, benchmarks, and more participation from around 500 community members, pioneers, stakepool operators (SPO).

With Alonzo White, partners and pioneers can start running their scripts on the network with the first benchmarking basic dApps for versions of Uniswap and stablecoins. Simultaneously, Alonzo White will bring the first exchanges integrated with the Rosetta framework. Rosetta was created by Coinbase to aide in adding tokens to these platforms.

August & September

Towards the end with Alonzo Mainnet going live, Alonzo Purple will launch the first public testnet with all Pioneers “onboarded” with the partners dApps. This will take place in August and components Daedalus Flight and Explorer will be tested as will the platform’s stability.

To finish things off, there will be two final “Red” and “Black” phases to fine tune just before Plutus and smart contracts are going to fully operational by the end of September.
