Ripple Boosts Fairshake PAC with an Additional $25M Donation

With an extra $25 million, Ripple has strengthened Fairshake, a federal crypto super political action committee (PAC). The purpose of this substantial donation is to aid candidates for Congress who embrace cryptocurrencies in the next elections.

Ripple gave $25 million to Fairshake in 2023 as well, bringing its total donations to the political action committee to a significant $50 million. Almost half of Fairshake’s $100 million in investment, which also comes from significant cryptocurrency contributors including Coinbase, Gemini, Andreessen Horowitz, and ARK Invest, comes from contributions made by Ripple.

The cryptocurrency sector sees the 2024 elections as a critical opportunity to elect pro-crypto politicians and defeat opponents like California Congresswoman Katie Porter. Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.)’s ally Porter was up against a $10 million campaign from Fairshake, which affected her chances of winning the Senate.

Ripple’s Vision for Crypto Regulation

Ripple’s latest donation is part of a broader industry initiative to promote favorable crypto policies. Ripple criticized the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) for its enforcement-based regulatory approach, calling for a proactive regulatory framework to nurture innovation in the U.S.

In a statement, Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse emphasized the company’s commitment to educating voters on crypto’s potential and countering anti-crypto policies in Washington. He stated, “Ripple will not – and the crypto industry should not – keep quiet while unelected regulators actively seek to impede innovation and economic growth that millions of Americans utilize. The crypto industry intends to remain heavily invested in this effort until we see meaningful change.”

Ripple’s legal battle with the SEC, which began in 2020 over alleged violations of federal securities laws, continues to underscore the industry’s regulatory challenges.
