Ethereum’s Vitalik Buterin in Time’s Top 100 List

Co-founder and face of Ethereum, the second-largest cryptocurrency by market cap, Vitalik Buterin, is included in this year’s Time magazine list of the 100 most influential people. Valuing his ability to empower other creators with his continued support for Ethereum and the things the network’s smart contracts can achieve, the programmer was listed as an innovator.

Time’s top 100 influential people list is composed yearly with the most important people according to current events and specifies the unique roles of each individuals on the list. Others from the crypto space included for 2021 are Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX and Nayib Bukele, president of El Salvador, who almost singlehandedly wrote history by making Bitcoin legal tender in the country, and E, who is also a cryptocurrency enthusiast.

Time’s review for Buterin was written by one of the original builders of Reddit, Alexios Ohanian, who said:

“What makes Vitalik so special, though, is that he is a builder’s builder. No one person could’ve possibly come up with all of the uses for Ethereum, but it did take one person’s idea to get it started. From there, a new world has opened up, and given rise to new ways of leveraging blockchain technology—some of which I’ve invested in.”

This year, Ethereum has been a crucial contributor for the rise of NFTs, its related products and some other important life-changing projects that run on the network’s blockchain such as Axie Infinity. Axie is currently making a huge impact in Asia where in the Philippines it is providing a decent income for those participating in it daily.

Referring to these important projects in the Ethereum ‘space’, Ohanian further stresses:

“Whether it’s startups like Sorare reinventing fantasy sports or Rainbow users showing off their NFT collections, none of this would’ve existed without Vitalik’s creation. I’ve never been more excited about the potential of the Internet, and that’s largely thanks to Vitalik Buterin.”
