The Decentraland Metaverse Fashion Week (MVFW) has kicked off. The blockchain-based virtual world will host a combination of high-end designers and wearables vendors showing off their non-fungible token (NFT) collections this week.
Popular brands such as Estée Lauder, Tommy Hilfiger, Dolce & Gabbana, Forever 21 and department store Selfridges are all making a presence in the virtual fashion event, with many having spent weeks laying claim to metaverse-ready trademarks in what seems to have been a brand protection strategy ahead of their first NFT releases.
According to Decentraland’s creative director, Sam Hamilton, Fashion Week is the perfect space for people to express themselves through wearables on their avatars.
