Coinbase Gains Ground in Singapore with New Payment License

Share

Crypto heavyweight Coinbase has achieved another milestone, this time in Asia. The Monetary Authority of Singapore has granted Coinbase a payment institution license. This green light means that Coinbase can now offer digital payment token services to a wider range of clients, including both individual and institutional customers in Singapore.

This isn’t Coinbase’s maiden venture in Singapore. They’ve been steadily marking their territory there. The establishment of a tech hub in Singapore last year was one of their strategic moves. This tech hub isn’t just a base; it’s a bustling center where product managers and engineers have been meticulously working on Web3 technologies. Moreover, Coinbase’s venture capital branch hasn’t been idle either, making investments in over 15 Web3 startups in the past three years. With such endeavors, it’s evident that Singapore plays a pivotal role in Coinbase’s Asia-Pacific strategy.

Coinbase’s endeavors extend beyond Singapore. Just last week, they made significant inroads into Europe, getting registered with Spain’s central bank. This followed their regulatory approval from Bermuda’s financial oversight body, underlining the firm’s efforts to expand its global footprint.

Coinbase’s approach to regulations is straightforward. In their blog, they mentioned, “At Coinbase, we see thoughtful and practical regulation as a key ingredient for growth that will ultimately help fulfill the potential of this financial and technological revolution.”

The company’s trajectory suggests a keen interest in not just expanding their services but also in integrating seamlessly with the regulatory frameworks of the countries they operate in.
