Coinbase Enlists Former U.K. Chancellor George Osborne for Advisory Council

Former UK Chancellor George Osborne has joined Coinbase, a cryptocurrency exchange, as a member of its Global Advisory Council, which will advise the company on regulatory policy and international growth.

Osborne is a great asset to Coinbase’s advisory team because of his broad experience in government and international finance, especially in fintech investing. Faryar Shirzad, Chief Policy Officer of Coinbase, highlighted Osborne’s contribution to steering the platform’s international development initiatives.

Osborne’s Enthusiasm for Blockchain Technology

Osborne is enthusiastic about blockchain technology and acknowledges that it has the ability to completely transform internet and financial activities. Regarding these developments, he believes Coinbase is a major contributor.

A complaint about its cryptocurrency staking program is pending against Coinbase from the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). Coinbase is aggressively growing its international operations. Bermuda, Singapore, France, and Spain are just a few of the nations where the exchange holds licenses.

Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong has made vague remarks about the company’s potential to relocate or increase its assets overseas in the event that U.S. regulatory certainty is still unclear.

With experience akin to that of the U.S. Treasury Secretary, Osborne was well-known for his handling of finances while serving as chancellor. As part of his efforts, he reduced corporate taxes to encourage economic growth and balanced the national budget by cutting housing and child subsidies. Right now, Osborne works as a partner at Robey Warshaw LLP, a boutique investment bank.

Osborne’s strategic views will likely be of great importance in determining Coinbase’s worldwide course as the exchange maneuvers around regulatory obstacles.
