The 2024 World Series of Poker (WSOP) has concluded, and the statistics reveal an impressive turnout and record-breaking events. This year’s series was monumental in terms of participation and prize money, setting several new benchmarks in live tournament poker.
Jonathan Tamayo from Humble, Texas, clinched victory in the main event, which boasted the largest field ever with 10,112 players. He walked away with a $10 million first-place prize. The main event also set a record for the largest prize pool in a single live poker tournament, exceeding $94 million.
“It’s special to see the passion for poker continue to deliver records on an annual basis,” said Ty Stewart, WSOP Senior Vice President and Executive Director. “The laundry list of records that were shattered this summer at the WSOP continue to show that the poker renaissance is upon us.”
The 2024 WSOP saw a total of 229,553 entries across all tournaments, the highest ever. Notably, the main event on July 6 set a single-day record with 5,014 players in flight 1D.
The $25,000 Pot-Limit Omaha (PLO) High Roller event had the largest PLO prize pool in history at $11.2 million. Additionally, the $1,000 Mystery Bounty PLO event attracted 4,280 entries, making it the largest PLO field ever.
The Millionaire Maker event drew 10,939 entries, setting a record for the largest $1,500 buy-in field. Meanwhile, the Mid-Stakes Championship had 3,177 entries, the largest ever for a $3,000 buy-in field.
A total of 34,717 players cashed in during the 2024 WSOP, surpassing last year’s record of 32,282. This year also saw a record number of events with prize pools exceeding $2 million (54 events) and $10 million (seven events).
