The World Series of Poker (WSOP) has often been the setting for enchanting narratives, and this year, a new fairytale is unfolding with Anirban Das, a relatively unknown poker player from India. With only 27 competitors remaining, Das’s impressive performance has already guaranteed him $280,100, for a 27th place finish. However, as the tournament’s bubble is on the verge of bursting, those finishing between 18th and 26th place are set to walk away with $345,000.
Nevertheless, despite these tempting figures, Das has his sights set even higher. He is aiming for at least a spot among the final eight, which comes with a guaranteed purse of $1,125,000. Who’s to say he can’t aim for the top spot? A victory in the main event would reward him with a massive $12,100,000 and make him India’s first WSOP Main Event winner, thus turning his dream run into reality. So far, his bold and aggressive strategy has proven successful, demonstrating his readiness to bluff at high stakes when necessary.
Not much is known about Anirban Das, with only three recorded live results in the Hendon Mob. He secured 19th place in this year 2023 WSOP Daily Deepstacks in Las Vegas, winning $1,043. In the 2021 WSOP Online, he finished 646th in the COLOSSUS ONLINE event, earning $1,413. Das also claimed 11th place in the Deltin Poker Tournament in Panjim, India, in 2016, where he won approximately $3,014.
As the remaining rounds of the WSOP Main Event unfold, poker enthusiasts around the globe are keenly watching Anirban Das’s journey. Could this player from India write a new fairytale in poker history and ignite a poker boom in India? Only time will tell.
