Player First Games, the company behind the well-liked crossover platform fighter MultiVersus, has officially been bought by Warner Bros. Games. Despite the lack of information on the acquisition’s finances, Warner Bros.’ dedication to growing its gaming business is emphasized by the statement. As per the acquisition agreement, Chris White and Tony Huynh, the company’s co-founders, will continue to lead Player First Games.

The relaunch of MultiVersus on May 28 was followed by this acquisition. The game was taken down for upgrades and improvements after it was first made available in open beta in 2022. Warner Bros. made the choice to include Player First Games after being impressed by the studio’s impressive work on MultiVersus. Warner Bros. recently dissolved its mobile branch at NetherRealm Studios, which signaled a major change in their approach to gaming. This is a calculated decision.

Strengthening Development Capabilities

David Haddad, president of Warner Bros. Games, expressed enthusiasm about the acquisition. “We have worked with Player First Games over several years to create and launch MultiVersus, and we are very pleased to welcome this talented team to Warner Bros. Games,” Haddad stated. He emphasized that Player First Games’ creative and skilled team would bolster Warner Bros.’ development capabilities.

Tony Huynh, co-founder of Player First Games, also shared his excitement. “Our team is excited to join the Warner Bros. Games family, and we feel that this will be great for MultiVersus overall,” Huynh remarked. He added that integrating the development team with the publisher would enhance the game experience, ensuring that players receive continuous improvements and updates.

MultiVersus stands out as a unique 2v2 fighter, featuring characters from various Warner Bros. franchises. The game offers a fresh take on the Super Smash Bros. formula by incorporating a diverse roster, including recent additions like The Joker, Agent Smith, Jason Voorhees, Samurai Jack, and Beetlejuice. As the game progresses into its second content season, Player First Games aims to build on its initial success and deliver more exciting updates to the MultiVersus community.
