The largest esports company in Asia, VSPO, has integrated cutting-edge AI technology into almost half of its esports tournaments, resulting in faster content creation and improved fan interaction. VSPO co-founder Danny Tang discussed how AI has transformed their production processes, improving the efficiency of tournament operations at the New Global Sport Conference 2024 (NGSC) in Riyadh this August.
Tang shared that the company now leverages AI for tasks like live highlight capturing and post-game editing, enabling smoother, faster production of esports content. He explained, “Over the past couple years, we have developed a lot of AI tools to allow us to better produce esports tournament content in a much more efficient manner.” One such tool, “AICam,” can condense hours of game footage into viral social media content in seconds.
Tang presented two of VSPO’s proprietary AI tools, “AIOB” and “AICam,” during the NGSC, which drew together over 1200 business professionals at the Kingdom Centre. Tournament directors can swiftly find and broadcast crucial moments with the aid of AIOB, and AICam automatically selects and edits highlights, turning footage into shareable clips at a rapid pace.
Tang further emphasized that VSPO and Qualcomm worked together on the Snapdragon “Faith of Victory” initiative. This system uses heart rate data and facial recognition to analyze the emotions of esports athletes in real time and provide insights into their mental health. With the help of 175 King Pro League players’ data, the AI system is continuously improved to increase accuracy.
Tang revealed that VSPO is integrating its AI technologies into the award-winning “4K OB Truck,” a mobile production unit designed for real-time broadcasting. This truck was a key feature at the Hangzhou Asian Games, where esports was a medal sport for the first time. A significant portion of the esports series was produced using this innovative vehicle, showcasing its global potential.
