In a strategic move to strengthen its global presence, The Sandbox has officially acquired Romanian studio QED. Now rebranded as The Sandbox Romania, the studio has been a valued external partner for the past two years, contributing to various projects before the formal acquisition was finalized.
The studio, located in Timișoara, a western city in Romania, marks The Sandbox’s 13th office worldwide. It was founded in 2019 by Ioana Verebi, Vlad Temian, and Marius Bălaj, and has a team of 17 professionals. The acquisition adds to The Sandbox’s extensive network, which already includes offices in key cities such as Hong Kong, Seoul, Los Angeles, Buenos Aires, and Paris. This expansion reflects The Sandbox’s ongoing commitment to pushing the boundaries of the metaverse and decentralization.
Sebastien Borget, The Sandbox’s Chief Operating Officer, shared his enthusiasm about the acquisition, saying, “We’ve built a strong relationship with the QED founders and their team. They bring exceptional technical expertise and leadership that consistently shines through in their execution and proactive approach to shaping and enhancing future versions of The Sandbox.”
QED’s co-founder Ioana Verebi, expressed her excitement about the partnership, highlighting the significance of joining forces with a company at the forefront of blockchain and decentralized technology. “The Sandbox is at the forefront of decentralization, blockchain, and technology. We’re excited to join forces to help shape a groundbreaking virtual world that fosters creativity, collaboration, and community,” she stated.
With this acquisition, The Sandbox aims to bolster its development capabilities and continue to lead the charge in creating an immersive, collaborative virtual world. The studio’s technical expertise and innovative approach will play a vital role in enhancing The Sandbox’s already expansive metaverse ecosystem.
