Sky Mavis Plans Major Expansion with zkEVM Integration

Share

In a strategic move to enhance its blockchain gaming ecosystem, Sky Mavis, the company behind the Ronin blockchain, is set to introduce support for zkEVM L2 chains. This initiative aims to empower third-party game developers to build their own L2 blockchains on Ronin using a modified version of Polygon’s Chain Development Kit (CDK).

Empowering Developers and Scaling Solutions

Despite hosting fewer games compared to its competitors, Ronin boasts a robust daily user base exceeding 1 million. By collaborating with Polygon and embracing zkEVM technology, Sky Mavis aims to attract a broader array of developers and users. This integration comes as a proactive response to Ronin’s rapid growth trajectory, ensuring scalability to support intensive on-chain game activities.

Sky Mavis plans to streamline the development process for third-party L2 chains by integrating Polygon’s ZK prover directly into Ronin’s platform. This integration will simplify the creation of zkEVMs for developers, eliminating the need to establish independent security and consensus mechanisms. However, prospective developers must meet a validator requirement of 250K RON to launch their L2 chains on Ronin.

While an official launch date for the first zkEVM chain on Ronin remains unspecified, CEO Trung Nguyen anticipates a potential rollout in Q1 2025. Nguyen underscores Sky Mavis’s commitment to building a unified gaming ecosystem that facilitates seamless asset transfers, token swaps, and NFT trading between Layer 1 (L1) and L2 games, all while prioritizing low gas fees for users.
