Fraudulent Fortnite Dill Bits Crypto Coin Emerges, Then Tanks

Share

Fortnite’s latest season revolves around crime, introducing an untraceable currency named Dill Bits for laundering heist proceeds into mythic weapons. Dill Bits, a clear parody of cryptocurrency, has sparked a real-world scam. An unrelated group has created a Dill Bits cryptocurrency, aiming to swindle unsuspecting fans.

The new season of Fortnite includes elements that lampoon cryptocurrency. Dill Bits, useful in-game for unlocking mythic items, mimics crypto tokens. The parody extends to the upcoming Pump N Dump Shotgun, a nod to crypto culture. Despite Fortnite’s negative portrayal of Dill Bits, crypto creators saw an opportunity. They launched an unlicensed Dill Bits cryptocurrency to exploit players.

Fake Dill Bits Cryptocurrency Launched

The in-game Dill Bits were never meant to promote a real cryptocurrency. Yet, a scam coin named Dill Bits appeared within a week of the new season’s launch. This fake currency, created on Solana, reached a market cap of nearly $5 million before crashing. The creators dumped their supply, causing the value to plummet by 90%.

Many missed the scam due to its rapid execution. The fake Dill Bits coin, unrelated to Epic Games, mimicked Fortnite’s branding. Tracker sites like dex scanner even listed its official site as the Fortnite Wiki. The coin’s assets included Fortnite skins, maps, and items. The scam reached millions before crashing quickly, likely too fast for Epic to intervene.

It’s regrettable that crypto scammers exploit popular properties like Fortnite, especially given the game’s young fanbase. The scam coin was created using Pump.fun, a tool for quickly making cryptocurrencies. This low-effort pump and dump scheme highlights the need for vigilance. Hopefully, the real Dill Bits won’t crash like their fraudulent counterpart.
