Casio is bringing its iconic G-SHOCK brand into the metaverse. The company has teamed up with The Sandbox, a leading Web3 gaming platform, to launch G-SHOCK City as part of its VIRTUAL G-SHOCK project. Starting September 3, players can explore digital experiences inspired by the tough, shock-resistant G-SHOCK watches—and pick up limited-edition NFTs and avatars along the way.
Good to know
At the heart of the collaboration is a custom space inside The Sandbox metaverse called G-SHOCK City. Visitors will be able to explore the brand’s legacy through interactive quests, complete survival challenges based on G-SHOCK’s famous durability, and unlock digital collectibles.
The project will also introduce the G-SHOCK Droid Collection—a line of robot-style avatars based on five of G-SHOCK’s most iconic models: the DW-5600, DW-6900, GA-110, GA-2100, and the oversized GA-V01. Each avatar features stylized designs meant to highlight the unique traits of their respective watch models.
NFTs will be available in different rarities:
Casio will open allowlist registration for early buyers on August 5 at 2:00 PM UTC, with the full sale kicking off September 3 at 2:00 PM UTC.
This metaverse move is part of a larger trend as traditional brands explore new ways to connect with younger, digitally-native audiences through blockchain-based experiences. Casio’s partnership taps into that with a blend of nostalgia, brand identity, and Web3 innovation.
