Apple foldable iPhone still appears headed for a September debut, even after a Nikkei Asia report raised fresh delay concerns around the device engineering test phase. Bloomberg said Apple is still aiming to introduce the phone around the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max launch window, though the schedule is not final.
Good to Know
The first warning came from Nikkei Asia. According to Reuters, Apple has run into engineering snags during testing, and those issues could push back mass production or first shipments if they take longer to fix than expected.
Bloomberg pushed back on that reading only hours later. Mark Gurman reported that Apple is still on track for a September unveiling, with the foldable model expected alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max or soon after. Even so, Bloomberg and TechCrunch both noted that a launch still sits months away, so timing can still shift.
Where Apple seems most focused is not just the folding design itself, but the weak points that have held the category back. Bloomberg reported that Apple believes it has improved screen quality and overall durability, and also made the display crease less visible when the phone is opened.
That could matter more than the foldable label on its own. Samsung and several China based phone makers have sold foldables for years, so Apple is arriving late. A cleaner screen and better durability would give Apple a clearer way to stand apart if the device does land in September.
