The Two Most Fun Crypto Projects of 2021: Axie Infinity & Dogecoin

Share

2021 was an exceptional year for the cryptocurrency market in many ways with top coins Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH) hitting record highs of $68,789.63 and $4,891.70 according to CoinMarketCap.

Following the success of the two main crypto assets, there were two “fun” altcoin projects that played an important role in shaping the cryptocurrency landscape in 2021.

Axie Infinity

Deserving the spotlight is play-to-earn (p2e) trading and battling game, Axie Infinity. Developed by Sky Mavis, the Pokemon inspired game allows participants to collect, breed, raise, battle and trade NFT-based creatures called Axies. The platform was one of the early projects that moved away from the Ethereum network because of high fees and slow transactions.

Play-to-earn and especially Axie Infinity has established itself as a real fan favorite in the past year 2021, providing its users with the possibility to earn a daily income alongside their gameplay. The extra buck an obvious benefit and competitive advantage, when comparing to traditional pay-to-play models. Something which has not gone unnoticed in countries like the Philippines where Axie Infinity has made it to the most popular online games around.

The platform’s native AXS token surged to new highs as Axie Infinity became a household name. The platform generated daily revenues of almost $20 million in August and the token reached an all-time high of $165.37 in the first week of November.

Bagging their massive success so far, Axie Infinity announced plans of launching its own decentralized crypto exchange.

Dogecoin

In 2021, there has not been any cryptocurrency, other than Bitcoin and Ethereum, that has gotten so much attention and positivity as the “people’s crypto”, Dogecoin, even bridging the gap with mainstream media.

While the open source, proof-of-work meme coin had been mostly dormant when it comes to network developments, it continuously made headlines throughout the year, leading to some serious endorsements and even future roadmap to strengthen its appeal among what is largely a “young” crowd of investors.

Th frequent and already notorious shilling from Tesla CEO and self-proclaimed ‘Dogefather’ Elon Musk helped to push Doge to an all-time high of $0.7376 on May 8, just at the time of Musk’s infamous appearance on Saturday Night Live.

The DOGE token received all kinds of attention this year. From being used to help fund the launch of a lunar satellite by SpaceX, Burgerking Brazil selling a Dogepper biscuit, to the launch of Dogecoin Poker room. On top of this, the meme-coin got listed on the largest cryptocurrency exchanges in the world and kicked off whole new meme-coin rally centered around the Shiba breed, giving birth to its own Dogekiller coin, Shiba Inu.
