FC Barcelona Cancels Deal With NFT Marketplace Ownix

FC Barcelona cancelled a marketing deal with non-fungible token (NFT) marketplace Ownix on Thursday.

Less than five days before Spanish La Liga legendary club FC Barcelona is scheduled to auction its first NFT collection through non-fungible token (NFT) marketplace Ownix, it has cancelled the marketing deal in place. Nevertheless, the Barcelona NFT collection is still scheduled to go live next week.

The Associated Press reported that the deal was cancelled following the arrest of Israeli crypto mogul Moshe Hogeg on fraud involving cryptocurrencies and assault charges on Thursday. According to the news Hogeg has ties to Ownix and the company is listed in the Interests section of his LinkedIn profile.

FC Barcelona released a statement on the club’s website:

“In light of information received today that goes against the Club’s values, FC Barcelona hereby communicate the cancellation of the contract to create and market NFT digital assets with Ownix with immediate effect.”

FC Barcelona’s NFT auction is set to take place on Wednesday November 25 and is based on photos and videos representing the club’s incredibly rich 122-year history. is slated to take place on Nov. 24, according to. The launch, highlighted with a countdown timer on the Ownix website will include a contribution from FC Barcelona’s new president Joan Laporta and other club ‘Socios’.

The AP article also revealed that Premier League powerhouse Manchester City have walked away from a deal with 3Key Technologies after concerns about the limited digital footprint of the company and its executives. City said in a statement:

“Prompted by the club’s interactions with 3Key Technologies in recent days. Manchester City is now conducting further enquiries regarding 3Key Technologies and the partnership has been suspended pending satisfactory resolution to all of those enquiries.”
