After coming into the final table as chipleader, Jans ‘Graftekkel’ Arends form the Netherlands was able to materialize his lead and win his second WSOP gold bracelet in Event #29: $100,000 High Roller
Beating five of some of the best players in the world of poker on the final table, the Dutchmen took home the first price of $2,576,729. Players he bested on the last day included, Biao Ding, Adrian Mateos, Jeremy Ausmus, Chance Kornuth and ultimately Cary Katz, in an impressive heads-up display of sheer power and aggression.
In the final hand of the tournament, Arends was able to trap his opponent with Ace King of diamonds by limping in, after which Katz moved all-in holding Q4. The board did not rescue Katz and Arends secured his 2nd WSOP bracelet.
The 2023 WSOP is a very successful one for Arends. A few days ago, he finished 3rd in Event #23: $50,000 High Roller (8-Handed) taking home $694,019.
Following the win, Arends shared his contrasting experiences between live and online events with reporters. “It’s completely different live,” he commented, referring to his initial bracelet win from an online tournament last year and his extensive online poker career and winnings.
“Live is more pressure, there’s people around, there’s cameras, live-streamed final table. There’s added pressure. The first one was just an online tourney and basically, all that people saw in the end was who won,” Arends said.
He concluded, “So, this is very different. Way more special, I would say.”
